Through the KOKONO™ product, I see hope in the role that the private sector can play through the deployment of innovative solutions to confront the health and other challenges of our times. Sustainable development and green goals are not cliché. This product therefore can impact families directly through the provision of a safe crib for infants, prevention of malaria through the mosquito net that is added as an accessory. This accords the KOKONO™ green credentials that should in time be recognised by the agencies of the Ugandan government implementing the National Climate change Act 2021. ![]() Secondly, since the KOKONO™ crib is made of biodegradable materials, it can if disposed of in a landfill degrade completely in 3 years. This product is important for us at SIPI Law because in some ways, it shows that we can use our platform in Intellectual Property Law to positively impact by indirectly fighting infant mortality in Uganda. We did so and also secured protection for the KOKONO™ Trademark. Our journey with KOKONO™ goes back to 2018 when SIPI Law Associates was engaged by Dr Lucia Dal Negro, the innovator to help secure Industrial design protection for this baby crib. ![]() The product was launched by the Italian Ambassador to Uganda and the event was graced by the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises (FSME) and development partners such as UNICEF, AMREF and the Belgian Development Cooperation.
